AESTHETICA SHORT FILM FESTIVAL NOW OPEN FOR ENTRIES


The Aesthetica Short Film Festival is a great opportunity for students to engage with an international platform. To kick-start your students’ careers in the film industry, we’re looking for short films of up to 25 minutes to screen at ASFF 2012. Several student/graduate films were screened at our festival in 2011 including our winner in the Best Art Film category.


ASFF 2012 takes place in the historic city of York from 8 – 11 November. The screenings will cover a wide variety of genres and filmic styles, including: drama, documentary, animation, comedy, music video, thriller, experimental and artists’ film. The films will be showcased across 15 iconic locations in the city, from medieval halls to boutique cinemas and in addition to four days of screenings there will also be a series of master classes, workshops and networking with leading industry figures.


The winner will also receive £500 among other prizes and screenings at a number of other UK festivals and the runner-up will receive £250. A shortlist of finalists will be included on the ASFF Sampler DVD, which will be distributed with the December 2012 issue of Aesthetica Magazine, the international arts and culture publication. Finalists will also be included in an editorial feature in the magazine.

ASFF 2012 Submission Guidelines


- Running times up to 25mins.

- English language, dubbed in to English or with English subtitles.

- Entries to be submitted by DVD with no regional coding.

- Please include: An entry form with Order Reference Number, Director's name, country of production, running time.

- Plus full contact details including postal address, telephone number and email address.

- Your film must not be in breach of any copyright, including music or sound contained in your entry.

- Films of any genre are accepted.


Entry is £15 and the deadline for submissions is 31 May 2012.


ASFF is hosted by Aesthetica Magazine, which is an internationally recognised brand, with a combined online and print audience of 100,000 + worldwide. The brand engages with the arts both in the UK, Europe and further a field and Aesthetica’s editorial combines dynamic content with compelling critical debate, attracting a high-profile, culturally aware audience.

Otsego County ARt Contest

Student Artists,
LEAF, Inc. is sponsoring a Fine Art Contest to help raise awareness of substance abuse issues!

This year we have a grand prize of $500, two $300 first prizes, two $200 second prizes and two $100 third prizes. There will also be a Poetry Competition (more info on that later)!

The contest is only being advertised in Otsego County but is open to all regardless of location. There is an adult category as well as an under 18 category.

Work can be in any medium, figurative or abstract, 2D or 3D as long as it is 100% original.

The deadline is April 15, 2012 and the theme this year is “Above the Influence”. LEAF isn’t looking for ‘poster art’ but rather for striking images that inspire people to think about the effects of culture, media and fashion on decision making.

We’re planning an opening at the UCCCA Gallery in the Wilber Mansion for Friday, April 27th with the show continuing through the weekend.

Here’s how to participate:

1. Create an original artwork on any 4”x6” heavy weight paper. Drawings, photographs, paintings, printmaking, and mixed media are welcome.

ONE ENTRY per artist.

2. Sign and Print Name on BACK ONLY. Indicate the top with an arrow.

3. Complete Submission Forms for Collector and Visual AIDS. Download athttp://www.thebody.com/visualaids/current/postcards2012_artists.html

4. Carefully package artwork. Recommended: wrap artwork in wax paper and place between cardboard. Do not submit charcoal or pastel pieces without fixing them. Do not wrap wet or sticky artwork.

5. If you need confirmation that we received your artwork, include a self-addressed, stamped postcard.

6. If you would like your unsold work returned, please include a 6”x 9” self-addressed, stamped envelope with proper postage. Unsold artwork will NOT be returned unless an SASE is enclosed. Visual AIDS is not responsible for artwork lost or damaged in the mail.

Postcards from the Edge is a unique benefit show and sale of original, postcard-size artworks on paper by established and emerging artists. Please note that all sketchbooks submitted to the 2012 Sketchbook Project will participate in the tour, although the London and Melbourne shows will be limited to books from Europe and Australia, respectively. All books will be exhibited at every North American tour stop. Stay tuned!

* Submissions must be placed in the box (hard copy only!) at the Writing Center and should not be over 3000 words.

* Submissions must include a title page with your name, box #, phone # and email address. This information should be on the cover page only, and not on the pieces themselves.
