Beginning this summer, students and a team of experts, will be building an 85% scale replica of the timber roof structure and polychrome wooden ceiling of this 17th century synagogue for the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

Several three week sessions are open to students from mid to late summer. Two weeks on site and one week of travel / site seeing. This unique opportunity is open to all students at the cost of $3300 without credit, all expenses included. Credit can be obtained with an additional fee from the Massachusetts College of Art. To the right there are also many details in a pdf file as well as the application. The deadline has been extended as they only just received final confirmation of this project from the Polish government.

This is an opportunity unlike any other. The Polish government has contracted a film maker who will be documenting this project which, when completed, is sure to bring international attention. T-Shirt Design Competition

Foldersnacks, is hosting a T-shirt design competition that
is open to all ages. There will be 12 winning artists who will benefit
significantly from having their work chosen. Winners will enjoy financial
compensation, as well as the satisfaction of having their artwork reach the
consciousness of many, many people.

We're reaching out to the visual art community because our music is not
complete without its visual counterpoint & we are confident that there are
artists out there who will be able to reveal the true shape of these sounds
in ways we cannot even begin to fathom. We are very excited about the
infinite possibilities that will inevitably result.

We'll be doing regular collaborative arts events in NYC featuring art shows,
live music, performance art, film, dance, etc., so being involved in this
particular competition could open up many other doors as well.

For info on awards, guidelines, and how to apply, please visit:

www.Foldersnacks.com and click on T-shirt Design Competition.

Art Contest

LEAF, Inc is sponsoring a Fine Art Contest in Otsego County to help raise awareness of problem gambling issues. The prize money is considerable with a grand prize of $1000, two $500 first prizes, two $250 second prizes and two $100 third prizes. The contest is only being advertised in Otsego County and Delhi and there is an adult category as well as an under 18 category. Work can be in any medium, figurative or abstract, 2D or 3D as long as it is 100% original. The deadline is April 1, 2011 and the theme is “Gambling: A Risky Business”. We’re not looking for ‘poster art’ but rather striking visual images that we can use to draw attention to our promotional materials.

I’m looking for ways to promote the contest and would love the opportunity to briefly speak with you or your students about it. I have a degree in Fine Arts and before working with LEAF was the Artistic Director of Catskill Puppet Theater for 30 years. (We just restored the First Night Puppets that we made in workshops with students.)

Please let me know if you have any interest in the contest, I would really appreciate your input!

You can call me at: 607-432-0090 x 106 or e-mail carol.mandigo@leafinc.org . On facebook search: LEAF Art Contest.

Thanks so much,
